Are We Truly Civilized? Exploring Humanity’s Place in the Universe and the Kardashev Scale

Updated: Oct 26

I was scrolling through TikTok one evening when I stumbled across a post that stopped me in my tracks. A man confidently declared that humanity does not currently have a civilization. Naturally, this got my attention. He went on to explain what he believed a true civilization to be—one that can harness its planet's resources, control natural forces, and work in harmony for the collective good. As I listened to his reasons, a strange feeling crept in: he might actually be right. Could it be that with all our technology and progress, we’re still not a true civilization?

That video triggered a profound realization within me. A universal download, if you will, that pushed me to question our current state of being and explore what a real civilization should look like. The more I thought about it, the clearer it became—humanity, for all its achievements, is still floundering in a Type 0 civilization on the Kardashev Scale, far from the potential we could reach.

What is a Civilization, Anyway?

When we think of civilization, we often picture our cities, our advanced technologies, and global communication networks. But what if I told you that these things, while impressive, don't make us a true civilization? According to the Kardashev Scale, civilizations are categorized by their ability to harness and utilize energy. At Type I, a civilization can fully control and utilize the energy of its home planet. Type II civilizations command the energy of an entire star, and Type III? Well, they can harness the energy of a galaxy.

As I researched deeper, I realized how we’re barely scratching the surface of Type I. We’re still reliant on fossil fuels, struggling with resource management, and divided by endless conflicts. Our technologies are amazing, yes, but we haven’t yet mastered our environment. And here’s the kicker: to be a true civilization, we need to work as a collective. Right now, humanity is more divided than ever.

The Evolution of Consciousness: A Personal Realization

This realization shook me. I had always believed that with our advances in technology and science, we were on the fast track to progress. But as I’ve evolved to higher levels of consciousness, it became clear to me that our spiritual and collective growth lags far behind our technological achievements.

As we grow spiritually, our perception of reality shifts. We begin to understand that we are not separate beings fighting for individual survival but part of a larger collective organism—an organism that needs to evolve if it hopes to survive. This journey of consciousness revealed to me that we're still in our infancy as a civilization, focused too much on external advancements while ignoring the deep inner work that’s required for true evolution.

So, Where Are We? Welcome to Type 0

Here’s the hard truth: we are currently a Type 0 civilization. This means we are still relying on non-renewable resources, we don’t control our planet’s energy efficiently, and we haven’t yet learned to work together as a unified whole. Instead of harnessing the planet’s energy for the collective good, we exploit it for short-term gains. And the consequences? Environmental destruction, inequality, and conflict.

In a true Type I civilization, we would be able to control weather, manage resources sustainably, and work as a global collective toward the same goals. But right now, we're divided—by politics, by borders, and even by ideology. The clock is ticking, and unless we start focusing on raising our collective consciousness and working together, the future could look bleak.

What’s Next? Evolving to a Type I Civilization

So, what do we need to do to evolve beyond this Type 0 state? The answer lies in both technological and spiritual evolution. We need to:

  • Embrace sustainable energy sources, like solar and geothermal, that allow us to control the planet’s energy in harmony with nature.

  • Foster global cooperation, moving away from the division that currently defines us.

  • Most importantly, elevate our collective consciousness. We need to realize that our individual actions impact the whole and begin working toward the good of the planet and humanity.

The truth is, if we do not evolve, we will not survive. Staying in a Type 0 state means we remain vulnerable to our own self-destruction—whether through environmental collapse, resource depletion, or endless conflict. This isn’t just about technology; it’s about how we think, feel, and interact with one another as conscious beings. The higher we evolve in our consciousness, the higher we evolve as a civilization.

I have to be honest with you. Your articles have some serious weight to it! This article had me thinking as a civilization we're on the lower end of type O. Your second article is even DEEPER! Gold is such a valuable resource for the good of the collective, yet somewhere in time, people were convinced to hoard it for other purposes that really don't benefit. I like it when you share these because it challenges my thinking. Professor level shit!

More for me to search in depth 🧐

Especially now since I'm confidently walking in my purpose.
